It’s mid-March in Upstate New York, and that means... SPRING! Well, maybe, kind of, almost… But while the daffodils aren’t quite blooming yet, green leaves, and warmer days are on the horizon. For area cyclists, it’s time to dust the cobwebs off those bikes, and schedule a tune-up with your local bike shop advertised here in Adirondack Sports. This year’s winter presented us with a mixed bag. At first, it was great for road runners and ice skaters, with little snow to hamper conditions. I was happy for the skaters as it has been a while since they’ve been able to skate for miles across a frozen lake. And then the real snow came… gifting Saratoga Winterfest and Camp Saratoga snowshoe races with the best conditions we have had in years. And because we live in the Northeast, this was followed by the inevitable ice storm, encasing parked cars, mailboxes and former snow banks. READ MORE
Long Distance and Spring Races
By Kristen Hislop
In season two “Ted Lasso” used a Walt Whitman quote “Be curious, not judgmental” during a darts game. He talked about how he was judged for what he said and did by others who thought they had it all figured out. Sometimes that sounds like the multisport world. You often hear people talking about an event they have done, saying ‘you should do it’. But rarely do we ask what kind of course suits you, what sports do you love, what are you doing currently? Athletes will pick a race because other people are doing it. Let’s be open in our race planning. Let’s ask questions of ourselves to learn and understand more. READ MORE

Although we’re still technically in winter, the days are getting longer and the snow is starting to melt – and it’s time to celebrate our female athletes with two special days! Did you know: National Girls & Women in Sports Day began in 1987 and celebrated this year on February 5. International Women’s Day began in 1911 and celebrated every year on March 8. Both of these days are meant to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements for and by women, and to bring attention to some of the challenges that women face in sports, business, and life. March is also Women’s History Month and this year’s theme is Moving Forward Together, designed to recognize the contributions of the many women before us as the foundation for the continual advancement of today’s women. In the first 119 installments of the Non-Medicated Life, a healthy diet and lifestyle has been shown to accomplish naturally for the majority of individuals most of the benefits of medications in the prevention of the chronic medical conditions mentioned above. With respect to defining a healthy diet, a whole food, predominantly plant-based diet such as the Mediterranean diet has the most data to support it.
