November Racing – Fall Classics for All

Fall in the Northeast brings the most amazing running weather. We have beautiful foliage with cool, crisp mornings. Our running community is lucky to have some awesome events to choose from that support incredible organizations. Post Covid, we lost some events, but as you’ll see with the slate that we are profiling, some are celebrating 15 and even 47 years! Get registered for a fun fall and support our sport. Not interested in running or walking, then jump in to volunteer. Volunteering offers a way to stay involved, meet some great people, cheer on athletes, and support local nonprofits. READ MORE

HIKING
Nun-da-ga-o Ridge – An Outstanding Fall Hike

Maps of the Hurricane Mountain Wilderness tell an unfortunate story: that these mountains were once not viewed in terms of their wildness, but in terms of the resources that people hoped might be extracted from them. Thus we have inherited today a region full of features named Potash Mountain, Soda Range, Coal Dirt Hill, Spruce Mill Brook, Big Slash Mountain, and Limekiln Mountain. These were not places for adventure or romantic contemplation of the sublime, but places where commodities were to be exploited. This historical ambivalence perhaps explains the current scenario, in which only a patch of wilderness remains preserved – almost all of it in the highest reaches of the range. READ MORE

Minnewaska State Park Preserve – Carriage Roads with Scenic Views to Extend Your Season

Whether you are a dirt riding newbie or an experienced “graveler,” there’s a perfect place in upstate to ride on well-maintained, unpaved roads while enjoying some of the most spectacular scenery you will find anywhere. Located in Ulster County, Minnewaska State Park Preserve perches on almost 22,000 acres of pristine parkland on top of the Shawangunks Ridge between the Hudson River and the Catskills. READ MORE
