By Rich Macha
The 2,334-foot summit of Buck Mountain is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the southeastern Adirondacks. On a clear day, hikers can see the High Peaks 40 miles away, as well as many other Adirondack peaks, both low and lofty, that may be familiar to hikers. READ MORE

RUNNING & WALKING
A Mosaic of Autumn Possibilities
By Laura Clark
Running through a sun-dappled forest canopy just after a brief shower, with my sneakers touching lightly upon a mosaic of freshly fallen colorful leaves never fails to define my autumn experience. For others, it might be planning to run in a festive costume, sampling a locally brewed pumpkin ale, or harvesting crops from your own garden. This fall we are fortunate to be presented with a roster of events that tap into all these possibilities. READ MORE

KAYAK, CANOE & SUP
By Alan Mapes
One of my greatest joys in paddling is exploring new paddling waters. We are blessed with many great places for canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding around the Greater Capital Region. I’m sure that I’ve left out favorites of some other paddlers and I hope to hear some suggestions from readers. I will leave it to your own resourcefulness to look up specific directions to these launches. READ MORE

ATHLETE PROFILE
Judy Guzzo – Be a lifelong athlete for a long (and fulfilling) life
By Kristen Hislop
Lifelong athletes are people who have been active in sports for their entire lives. We read about many sports that engage athletes over their lifespan on the pages of this publication. From hiking, skiing, running, swimming, biking, tennis, and golf – these sports attract athletes of all ages. According to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition Science Board, 73% of adults who play sports also did so when they were young. We may know someone who swam in a summer league as a kid and continues to enjoy lap swimming as an adult. READ MORE

SWIMMING
Back to the Pool – Adirondack Masters and US Masters Swimming
By Kathy Meany
As swimmers and triathletes in the great Northeast, we are fortunate to live in an area where we have access to beautiful lakes and outdoor town park pools to swim in throughout the summer months. But like it or not, the outdoor season comes to an end, and we are forced to move our workouts to an indoor pool at a local fitness club, high school, college or community center. The challenges of returning to swimming in an indoor pool for many months of the year can include finding a facility with lap swimming hours that match our schedule, getting a lane, endlessly staring down at the black center line, and dealing with the effects of chlorine!
